Perdue Anne Arundel, Maryland c. 1680 on
In researching my ancestor John Watkins, d. 1696 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, I obtained a copy of his inventory dated Nov 9, 1697 to Dec 13, 1697, naming Walter Pardue, "1 English orphan servant having one year to serve."
I then checked in my well-worn copy of Anne Arundel County Church Records of the 17th and 18th Centuries, by F. Edward Wright, and found an entry on p. 12 for "James Steward and Walter Pardoe, 'young men,' baptized Dec. 14, 1701.
There are no further entries for Walter in this book, but there are quite a few folks with variations on this surname. What complicates research is the fact that the surname has so many variations in spelling, including (but probably not limited to) Perdue, Perdew, Pardue, Pardoe, Purdy, Purde. In fact, there are so many variations that I'm wondering if another of my ancestral names, Purdum (intermarried with Watkins), is another variation.
There are too many Perdue names listed to mention here, but here are some of the earliest entries:
