I have an original handwritten document that is a separation (divorce?) agreement for David K. (looks more like an ‘R’) Perdue and his wife, Rhoda Perdue. It is very difficult to read, but I will try to decipher it: (the no punctuation and small case letters are just as it is written)
“Know all men by these present that I David K Perdue and Rhoda my wife have agreed to make a final separation of living together and of property and I david k. Perdue have given the Land I bought of Jacob Smith unto the said Rhoda and her two daughters Nancy and Manivera as their part of my estate and 2(?) the said Rhoda do hereby accept of the said Land as my dower and portion of the said D K Perdue estate This separation shall be final when he gives me our bed and furniture part of the covers of another bed and all the sheep & four plaits all the knives and forks but one set a pot and kettle one water vessel one cow bought of holston 4 bushels of corn at Bill Od?? and 6 bushels at ????(Lou?) Smiths 400 (?) ????? ?? Bacon 1 wheel wha??? We have set our hands and seals on the 24 day of february, 1863
his mark X David K Perdue,seal
her mark X Rhoda Perdue, seal
attest
??? Booth
Jacob Smith
Andrew Stowers”
I will be happy to try to scan it and send it via email to anyone that would like a copy.
