DR. FRED SPIKER made a business trip to Albia yesterday.

JAS. A. PENICK was in Plattsmouth, Neb., Monday on legal business.

Lent began Wednesday and the season will continue for six weeks.

MRS. J.T. BARROWS was called to Oskaloosa yesterday by the illness of her sister-in-law.

MISS NELLIE COWLES returned Tuesday evening from a few days' visit in Chicago.

HENRY SPIKER of English Township left Tuesday night on a trip to Sheridan, Wyoming, and other points in the west.

ARTHUR KETCHAM and LESTER WHITLESEY returned Tuesday from a few days' visit in Humeston, Leon and Davis City.

TOM JOHNSTON and little daughter, LOUISE, returned Tuesday evening from a few days' visit with relatives in Cromwell.

MISS GRACE BLOUS of Des Moines returned to that city this eveing after a few days' visit with her numerous Chariton friends.

MISS EDNA STEPHENS of Greenfield is spending a few days with her relatives and old friends here hwile on her way to Centerville where the family expects to reside.

MRS. F.E. PICKERELL of Unionville, Mo., who had been spending a week in Chariton at the home of her father-in-law, G.W. PICKERELL, went to Russell yesterday to visit relatives.

ED. DHABOLT of South Dakota arrived last week for a visit in Benton Township with his sister, MRS. SAMUEL SNODGRASS.

MRS. KATE SHULTZ and two children of Cumberland, returned home Tuesday evening after a week's visit with MRS. E.W. GRAY.

MR. and MRS. H.L. MAUK of Liberty Township left Tuesday evening for a week's visit in York, Neb.

MRS. MYRTLE MURRAY of Russell, visited in this city Tuesday evening.

MRS. BIRDIE MCCORMICK returned Tuesday afternoon from a visit in Centerville. She was accompanied home by her sister, MRS. IRENE PEPPERS, who will spend a few days with her parents, MR. and MRS. J.M. HARRISON.

On next Tuesday evening the Mission Circle will have a box opening at the Baptist Church.

BEN MEADOWS has purchased FRANK PEARSON's interest in the PEARSON & BECKER barber shop and will move back to Chariton from Ottumwa.

JOHN WILLIAMS returned last night from a business trip to Kansas City. While there he purchased an elegant new cab which he will add to his line. It is of modern style and lighter than the one now in use.

MISS LELA GRAHAM left Monday morning for Winterset where she and her cousin have purchased a dress-making establishment.

MR. and MRS. E.M. WELLS are spending today with friends in Lucas.

J.H. HURFORD has returned from a trip to Shawnee, Okla.

By invitation REV. PALMER addressed the high school this morning.

O.J.ISRAEL has been in Chicago this week purchasing dry goods for McCollough & Co.

MRS. D. CROWLEY of Chicago returned home this morning after a visit with her parents, MR. and MRS. WILLOUGHBY.

MISS ALICE CAREY of Seattle, Wash., arrived last night for a visit with her brother JAMES and sisters, NORA and HELENE CAREY.

MR. and MRS. H. PERRY departed last evening for Creston where they will make their future home.
