Bill Peoples, Jr. Mid-1940's

While going through some old photos and papers of my father's (Harlon B. Carter) I found an old photo of a written page of poetry.

On the bottom it states that it was written by Bill Peoples Jr. (student at U.V.M.) the night before his daughter was born.

The poem reads:

"The doctor who may make the blind man see;
The politician who someday may prove The Savior of a broken country;
The preacher with a mission from above;
These he may be. His pen may write the lines posterity will quote and memorize.
Fruit from his brush may elevate men's minds and give them finer things to idolize.
A cold gray stone may hover o'er this place when his small form lies underneath the earth,
before his time cast from the human race,
to never have a chance to prove his worth.
He knows that whence or where his path may lead
the unborn child, just from his mother freed."

Somehow I hope the child of Bill Peoples Jr. finds this!
