Thanks for the info. Swint was my gg grandfather and his son Joel was the father of my grandfather. My Father remembers him well and he was told both by his grandfather(joel) and father Henry Thomas Peoples that the reason for the change in spelling was because the mail was always getting mixed up with other Peebles in the area. When a mix up at the bank occured because of a mail problem with Joel and Edgar Peebles my gg granfather chose to change the spelling of his name.
I'm not sure if g grandfather Joel was named after his Father Swint or if Swints real name was William. I have come across references to an Ivey. My gg grandfather Swint married Martha E. Crawford and she is buried in the same cemetery with her son Joel and his wife Eveline Beeson.
