My first name is Penuel which has its origin from the Old Testament being firstly a place name (see Genesis chpt. 32 v. 30 ) and then a man's name in the books of Kings and Chronicles. I am a woman and the name has passed down my father's maternal lines. He came from Scotland and I have traced the name back to the MEEK / CALDER / GOWAN lines in Whitburn, Mid-Lothian to the early 1800s. I do not know how it came to be used as a girl's Christian name but I suspect that it may go back to the GRANT family who had a daughter named Penuel in the 1700s. Anyone have any ideas?
