It has to be considered that Price Penuel's parents died in Carteret County, NC in about 1775 because in September of that year Thomas Britton requested to be appointed guardian of Rachel Pennuel and in December 1777 it was said that John Penuell had been in the care of Thomas Britton for the past two years. Considering the uncommon name and the time frame, it would certainly be surprising if Rachel and John Penuel were not Price's siblings. Perhaps Price was too old to need a guardian or perhaps he had a guardian and that fact was simply never recorded in court. I have no idea who Thomas Britton was, but he and his wife Susannah also had 12 year old Ann Brumly bound to them in 1771 so it is reasonable to assume that they were either relatives or operated a business that needed apprentices. Price also used orphans as apprentices when he was an adult.
