I have a semi-related mystery on Frederick Pentz and his wife Mary C. Pentz. I have a letter from an orphanage stating that a Mrs. Pentz dropped off my Great Grandmother Bessie Johnson b: May 12, 1888 on private arrangement. Mrs. Pentz is listed as living at 416 Vanderbilt Ave, which matches her address in the NY directory in 1888 and 1890. Bessie Johnson was then discharged to "her mother" living at 674 Bergen Street. According to my research, Mary C. Pentz, widow of Frederick Pentz, died in 1896, which means she could not have picked up Bessie Johnson. Also, in 1930 Census, Anna S. Johnson is listed as the mother-in-law of Elizabeth "Bessie" Quist and her husband Andrew Harold Quist. I suspect that Anna Sofia Johnson is the actual mother of Elizabeth "Bessie" Johnson, but I am still attempting to confirm this. I requested a birth certificate for Elizabeth "Bessie" Johnson from the city of Brooklyn, but they were unable to find it. This has been a mystery to my family since we found the letter from the orphanage, dated August 5th, 1941.
