There is the Lewis Family Bible of Nancy and William LEwis that states that Francis and Catey are the parents of Nancy.
The Lewis' remained in Petersburg Va. One page says
"Nancy Pentecost, the daughter of Francis Pentecost and Catey His wife was born the 7th of January, 1793."
The children's birthdates as given, follow the same style:
Mary Ann Lewis daughter of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born January 24th 1813
Francis P. Lewis son of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born Sept 10, 1815
Catherine B. Lewis daughter of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born May 8th 1818
? W. Lewis, son of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born Sept. 2nd 1820
William M Lewis, son of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born Sept 18th 1823
Thomas (I. or S. or J.) Lewis, son of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born July 15, 1826
Nancy G. Lewis, daughter of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born July 20th 1829
Elizabeth (I or S. or J.) Lewis, daughter of William Lewis & Nancy his wife was born November 7th 1832
There is the "Family Record" (recopied and signed by Mary G. Jones) who lists each of the children of "S" Pentecost and says Francis is his father. (No mention of mother). Who reared the children is not known.....maybe Catey died young and Scarborough didn't remember his mother's name.....or the children failed to mention it. When Francis died in 1799, Scarborough was only 3 years old, Nancy only 5.
The record I have starts by saying that "Scarborough Pentecost, son of Francis Pentecost", was born September 15, 1795." There is also an older copy of what appears to be pages from a little book in another hand writing, but Mary G. Jones re-copied the information exactly like the book pages and then signed her copy. Mary G. Jones' copy has two children James and Nancy Inez Pentecost' names circles like a cloud. They both were deceased at the time she recopied the information.
