Samuel James Penny married Laura Annette Mohr at Manchester, Iowa, 28 Sept. 1884. Their child was Earl James Penny. Earl James Penny married Nellie Luella Durant at Sargent, Nebraska, 24 November 1911. Their children were Wayne Durrant Penny, Edna Mae Penny. Laura Mohr died at Manchester, Iowa, 29 October 1889.
Samuel James Penny then married Laura Annette Mohr's sister, Martha Amy Mohr, Manchester, Iowa, 28 September 1866. The children from this marriage were Marc A. Penny, Laura Annetta Penny, Marian Penny, Lee Mohr Penny and Ross Allan Penny.
