Carol Taylor, archivist, to Penniman Cousins 10/8/01!
I am overwhelmed by your responses! I will research your ancestors as I am able to. It is likely we are related as the Penniman surname is rare. However, many familys did not contribute to the historical record when the information was being compiled in the early years of the 20th century and later into the 1960s.
Our common ancestor, James Penniman, came to Boston Massachusetts on the 2nd boat after the Mayflower - the Lion, in 1631. James had married Lydia Eliott in Essex, Eastern England. They lived in Boston for a while and removed to Braintree, Massachusetts. the parented 5 sons and 5 daughters.
Their history is recorded at the Braintree Historical Society, Penniman Library, Braintree, Massachusetts. B.H.S.'s website is www.braintreehistoricalsoc.org
As a Penniman descendant and interested family member I have taken on the responsibility of updating records as quickly as I can given I work/attend school/and live 50 miles from the library! I am taking web design at present, the Penniman website will not be up until next Spring. If you share your address, I can send my first 2 newsletters to you.
I can be reached by mail at Braintree Historical Society, 31 Tenney Rd, Braintree, MA 02184.
