Phyllis,

The most recently unearthed documents lead me to believe that your Isaac Penny MAY have been a brother to the wife of William Penney (b.1778 Johnston County, NC.) I don't have a lot to go on with this theory, but am relatively certain that Isaac is not a brother of Mary Penny (of Wake County, NC) and am positive that he was not a brother of my William Penney. Based on the information that I pulled up on a tax list at the Gibson County library last month, Isaac appears to be the first Penny to migrate to Gibson County, and that he was in the county in 1829 and 1830.

I found the complete list of William Penney's (b.1778) children from a court document relating to his death intestate in 1853: Elizabeth, Cloe, James, Henry, & Caleb. Elizabeth married Hardy Durham in Johnston County, NC and moved to Alabama, and then apparently Georgia. Cloe married James Hilliard, who died in 1836, and she remarried Philip Flinn. I have lost track of them after the father's death. James remained in Gibson County. His family (albeit relatively small) is still represented there today. Henry Penny and Caleb Penny have eluded me. It is entirely possible that they followed your James family. They could have gone anywhere, including off to war. I have no idea of either of their birthdates, but will continue to pour over the avaiable information in hopes of discovering a clue. I know that there is a missing link just waiting to be uncovered.

I look forward to hearing your interpretation.
