The name Penner has 3 different origins,1. Benders Family from South Germany, name changed to Penner through the years,Pennaert's from Antwerpen and Flandern, moved to Aachen, Germany and later to East Prussia, 3. van Peene from Holland, Flandern moved to Prussia, changed to Penner and dismissed the van. (I can send you an English version of the article later)
I'm Frank Penner from Hamburg, Germany and I know that my grandma Maria came from Russia in the beginning of the last century. Penner is a very rare name in Germany now and I was very surprised to see the name Penner everywhere when I visited Steinbach in Canada.
