Hi Cindy:
You may have seen in other messages where I mention that my Dad did a great deal of research starting about 25-30 years ago for fifteen plus years on Pennell and other families (before computers). He did a lot of traveling to various courthouses, cemeteries and libraries. Also, we are fortunate to have a wonderful archives in our local library and have access to the University of Illinois stacks. He has considered the possibility that the Joshua Parnell in Surry Co. in 1790 is our Joshua Pennell. Although I don't have near the amount of info on this that Dad does, I am also very passionate about family history and try to provide him the benefit of computer access he doesn't have. Recently in looking at the Parnell genforum messages, I see there are a lot of Hardy Parnell mentions and suspicions he is tied to the Joshua in Surry Co. In light of those and Dad's earlier ponderings, I am wondering if you have ever looked into the Hardy Parnell to see if he might by your Hardy Penuel. I have seen the name as Pennell, Pennel, Pinion, Pinnion, Perrel, Pevel, Pannell, Penwell, Pennill, Purnell, Parnell and others. So Parnell is logical. We have never been able to prove the NC/VA connection to our line but some evidence certainly points this way. If you would like to reach me directly, use [email protected] for my email. I would like to discuss with you more.
Peggy
