Hi Diana, My Penns and Johnsons were from Mecklenburg/Brunswick Co VA, and there were several Penn-Johnson connections along the way. All these families started in colonial VA and moved on to the southern parts of VA. The most likely connection to your line could be Woodson V Johnson (c1790-after 1840). He was in the War of 1812 and applied for a bounty land warrant, which were often awarded for land in Kentucky. He was the son of Phillip Johnson & Jemima of Mecklenburg Co, and married Elizabeth T Whittemore 1812 in Mecklenburg Co. Woodson's brother Phillip R Johnson married Martha Farrar 1812 in Mecklenburg Co, and their son William W Johnson married Martha A Penn 1839 in Mecklenburg Co. This illustrates the ongoing friendship between the two families. I have no evidence of earlier intermarriages but there are property transactions. Martha Penn (1817-after 1880) was the dau of Thomas Penn (1775 Brunswick Co-after 1840), who was in the War of 1812, and married Tabitha Lucas 1804 in Brunswick Co. He was the son of Thomas Penn (1749 Brunswick Co-1803 Brunswick Co) who married Elizabeth Quarles c1781. His sibs were Jesse, Joseph, John. Mecklenburg Co is on the North Carolina border and there may be connections there, as the records show that people could easily cross the road and do business in the other state. Hope this can help you and please send any info that can add to my records. Let me know if we connect! Notify Administrator about this message?
