Hi Penny,
Perhaps your mother would know of the African American Jerry Penn in question. He came from Patrick County, and most of his family members worked in tobacco factories in NC after Emancipation. Jerry (Jerimiah) Penn (b. 1805 VA-d. aft. 1870) married Sarah Flippen in 1840.They must have obtained a divorce, because Sarah married Lewis Clark in 1864, and Jerry was living with Peter and Eliza Jessup in Stokes County, NC, in 1870 according to the 1870 Census Schedule.
Peter and Eliza Jessup were my great grandparents, so I am interested in any information about the African American PENNS from Patrick County.I would appreciate any information or leads that you can provide.
Thank you.
jan
