Hi, Bill:

I was just poking around the Net looking for some genealogical stuff, and was shocked to have found your posting from nearly a year ago. Augustus Pendley as a brother to my great-grandfather. I'm told he was called Gus. His dates were 1835-1888, and his wife, Mary Eliza Cole, was 1856-1911. They are buried in Pawling Rural Cemetery, Pawling, NY. Gus had a store in Pawling, and I actually have a copy of the Pawling Pioneer (newspaper) with an advertisement in it for provisions for going west. Please see a new web site,, which shows everything I know about my line. I don't know anything about the Coles (only that it's a pretty common name around here), but I know everything about the Pendleys (believe me, there isn't much). Where do you live?

I am in an eternal quest to find where my Great-great-grandfather came from, Augustus' father. Martin (1803-1864) and wife Lilius (1803-1882)are as far back as I can track.

Augustus and Mary had one daughter, also named Lilius, who married Willard Vail. To my knowledge, there are still some Vails around here.

Please e-mail me if you get this reply!

All the best,
