Hi, to Angie, Lisa, Don and all others who are connected to these Pendley/Penley's of Burke, Yancey, Watauga, Yancey,Mitchell,Buncombe, and Madison Counties of N.C.
These are my folks also.

This Elijah you speak of was the son of William and Luraney Smith Penley, Dau. of Solomon Smith. Burke County (now Caldwell)Elijah's siblings were:
(1)William (1808) who married Matilda Shaffer. This pair went to Buncombe/Madison County.
(2)Alley Penley (1794)(never married)Lived in Mitchell Co.
(3)Demaris Penley m.Wilburn Marcus (now Caldwell Co)
(4)Lydia (ca 1792m.Barnes
(5)Ursula (ca 1804)Burke County m.Daniel Craig
(6)Anna Penley (ca1806) m.Alfred Pritchard
(7)Elijah Penley (1808) B.Burke Co. Died Madison Co.M.(1) a Luce. (2) Levina (Louisa)
(8)Jesse Penley Mar.12,1812 Burke Co.m. Sarah Johnson.
(9)William Penley B.1808 Caldwell Co. m. Matilda Shaffer (Madison County)
(10)Synthia Penley (1815 Caldwell County) m.Cpt. William Puett.
(11)John Pendley b.1819 Caldwell Co.lived in Spruce Pine.

I have this William's WILL and he names all these children. The Will was made in 1848.

I have records where this William Penley (ca1756-60)Lived and owned lots of acreage in the Caldwell County area. It states also: he owned many land holdings in the Toe River Valley Area.(This would be around Spruce Pine and Burnsville,N.C.(Yancey and Mitchell Co.)
Looks like he placed some of his children on this land.(as per Yancey Census) Elijah, James, Alley and William.
Alley was MY ancestor, she had many children. One was my GGGrandfather, William Pendley (1813) married Dicey Freeman. They had children Merritt Lafayette 1848,Robert,Martha Elizabeth 1855,Mary Jane 1852,.
I have lots of history on this family if anyone is interested.
