Hi Jenny

I think you're the most promising answer I've seen. I pretty much given what information I can remember. It was all told to me when I was in my early teens (50+ yrs ago) and like most teenagers I wasn't interested.

My John Hugh Penfold would have died in the late 1860's or in the 1870's. I believe was stationmaster at "Dixie" I know that there is/was Dixie in Ontario. It was where Missaugua is now. There also are also some "Dixie" place names around Montreal. So I'm not sure which one they lived at. Probably Montreal at least at the time my Grandmother was born (c1866/7) John's wife was Mary Ann(Nan) Drew Penfold and she died in l917 in her eighties. My granduncle John had two children and one was born in CALGARY so there might be some relationship. But they would have been greatgreats (and maybe more) to you're family. This John's son Geoffrey was an "engineer" apparently not a train type though until his mother died and he joined the priesthood. His daughter Elizabeth Maud "Lyle" was never married and they both died in Vancouver in the 1950's. I have copies of the death certificates if you need the and we're related. That's how I know "Lyle" was born in Calgary. Geoffrey was born in Montreal and their mother was Elizabeth O'BRIEN.

I have no idea of what siblings my greatgrandfather may have had nor where he was born. The reason I think he married in Montreal is because Nan's sister (both Drew sisters born in Limerick area of Ireland) was apparently in school there during the 1860's However that could have been a boarding school or their parents could have still been alive.

I sometimes feel like my relative sprang from nowhere and returned there. But it's fun trying to find something out.

If we are related, your husband's father my have known or known about them (In the back of my mind I vaguely recall my mother saying that someone way back when was not RC. I can't remember if that was my grandfather Jerry(jeremiah) Coffey or if was my ggfather John Penfold). I wish now I paid more attention then. Oh well..

Let me know if this helps you or you have any leads where we both may look. Thanks

Mary Ryan Caffre
