Thank you for your reply. After I posted my message I found that same reference. There is however, one problem. Ellis J. Pennfield embezzled 50K from the Kelley Iowa bank either on February 21, 1911 or shortly before. The Febraury 23, 1911 edition of the Ames Intelligencer newspaper that breaks the story makes no mention of his death. Social security death index also has no record. I have my doubts whether that death date is correct. My greatgrandmother, his wife would have been notified had he been killed or took his own life after the robbery. She never saw or heard from him again. Considering they had been married for 11 years and had just adopted a baby (my grandmother) two years prior, the whole story is quite odd. I've hit a brick wall finding the gravesite of Ellis, or the biological parents of my grandmother Lucile. If you have anymore information, please let me know.
