Hi Helen,
< I haven't been able to find Florentine middle names. Could you give me the source. >
I got the name "Florentine Sarah Dillard Isbell" from researcher Claudia Wendling and also from Colleen Hearon who has written the Book Pendleton's of America Vol 1 and I believe has not finished Vol 2. She lives in Southeast Kansas and she has a Pendleton reunion every couple years.I'll send her mailing address by separate email.
And, from Marion Miller 12-12-1999:
"Florentine S D Pendleton, Sometimes called Josephine, is buried in the Groene (pronounced Green) Cemetery, dying 17 Aug 1856, in her 49th year. She and George were the direct ancestors of my mother Lillian R. Pendleton whose father was Jesse F & Iva Hawk Pendleton."
Florentine shows in these deeds Amherst Co., VA (compliments of Claudia Wendling):
Deed Books of Amherst County
3 April 1828. Richard Pendleton, to son William Pendleton, love; slave at pleasure. Witnesses; William Shelton, W.P. Sisson, James McDaniel, Robert Tinsley, Daniel F. Christian.
4 November 1829. William Pendleton to Elijah letcher..$200102 1/4 acres.Lines; grantee, William R. Roane, Alexander Tinsley.William Pendleton's wife Florentine.Ambrose Rucker and Nelson D. Dawson, Justices of the Peace.
11 November 1829William Pendleton and wife, Florentine, to James Marsh.. to S. Garland, attorney for Robert Isbell, 11 September 1834--$25.00 interest in estate of Zachariah Isbell--1/7th.Lynchburg Justices of the Peace above.
Also from Claudia Wendling, who I had exchanged Pendleton data with in 1999 who wrote 3-3-1999:
"Richard Pendleton married Mary Tinsley.Richard is descended from the Pendleton line that settled in Amherst County, Virginia.Mary Tinsley was from Madison County, Virginia.Richard Pendleton served more than one
tour in the Revolutionary War and married Mary Tinsley shortly after the war.Richard had a son named William.Another researcher states that Richard's son William died unmarried. This is not correct.William married Florentine S.D. Isbell, daughter of Zachariah Isbell and Sarah Isbell in 1821.In the original marriage register, the same day that William had applied for his marriage bond, his sister Lucy applied for a marriage bond.Richard obtained the marriage bond for Lucy and the register states that he is her father.William Pendleton served as a witness for the marriage bond of his sister Lucy.William obtained his own marriage bond and he is listed as Florentine's guardian."
And,from Claudia "Richard died in 1829.William Pendleton, his children and future ones are mentioned in the will of Richard.William and Florentine and their children and Sarah Isbell and her minor children left after Richard died and moved to St. Louis County, Missouri."
I believe that the William who was in Richard's will is William who came to Missouri after Richard died in 1829 and is in this Richard Pendleton Will:
(Richard Pendleton's will compliments of Claudia Wendling 3-5-1999)
Book 7, Page 244--April 3, 1828; June 15, 1829.Witnesses: Wm. Shelton, W.P. Sisson, Jas., McDaniel, Jr., Danl F. Christian. Henry T. Pendleton qualified.Bondsmen: Jas. Pendleton, Isaac Rucker, Wm. L. Burks, Jas. McDaniel, Jr. Chas. L. Barret.
Wife, Mary 600 acres where I live; slaves; my unfortunate son, Reuben; sons, Henry T. and Rich., Jr., if no issue; my children and grandchildren.duaghter, Eliz. Lucas--ten equal parts--children of my son, Wm. and future ones--for his life and under his control.Eliz Lucas and children' daughter, Permelia Zevely, and children; daughter Sally Jones, and children . . .
Since Richard and Mary Tinsley were married Jan 4, 1784, I don't believe they could have had a son who in turn had a son named William born 1800.
Bob
