Julie, thank you for responding to my post.

Your Malicia sounds like she is the daughter of J. O. (James Oliver I believe)Pendergrass and Parmelia Powell. If your Malicia is their daughter, there was also a son (brother to Malicia), James Moses Pendergrass.

I would almost (and, I said "almost") bet my last dollar that James Moses is the father of my Annie Emma Pendergrass. But, the only way I'll be able to prove it, is if he had shared the fact that he married M. E. (Ervine) Striplin using the name of his father J. O. Van Zandt Co. on April 16, 1878. And, fathered two children Annie Emma b. 10 Aug 1876, and Perry b. 1879. James' father, J. O., had been dead since abt. 1864. There was no other J.O. Pendergrass (of any spelling) in the area. The reason for using his father's name is because he was already married. He married Amanda Belle Roberts on 24 Oct 1877 in Sherman, Grayson Co., TX.

Yet he was living in Van Zandt Co. in 1880.

Jas. Pendergrass abt 1856 Texas Head
Amanda Pendergrass abt 1860 Missouri Wife
Wiley Pendergrass abt 1878 Texas Son

James' and Amanda's second child was born 30 Mar 1881. I don't know if it was Van Zandt Co. or Gainsville, TX. But their thrid child was born 24 Nov 1883 in Gainsville, TX. By, 1891, James had relocated his family to Kansas, plum out of the state.

Like I mentioned before, to prove this, James' would have had to have shared this info with someone who passed it on, or (with luck) wrote it in a diary or bible.

And, there is that chance that a "non-Pendergrass" man just borrowed that name to marry my great-great grandmother.

Here are some URLs that will hopefully help you tell if your Malicia is the person above. The folks that put these up have their emial addys available, too:

Thank you, again, for your response to my post. If you come across anything you think may help my situation, please think of me.
