seeking dna of Ransom Pendergrass descendants and others
As some of you know, there is a Pendergrass/Pendergraph dna project being hosted by Mary Fern Souder through familytreedna.com.We have established some very interesting things, such as that, despite the similarity in first names and locations, the Job P group is NOT related to the John P groups, and the two John P groups have more mutations (less connection) than we had expected. The more samples in the pool, of course, the more connections we can make. The test is physicallypainless and easy, involving a brushing of the inside cheek and the mailing off of the samples to a central tesing point.A 25 marker PATERNAL test, which is what we've been doing, runs just under $200.
I would be willing to pay the fees for testinga direct male descendant of Ransom Pendergrass, about whom more later, or of his presumed brothers Aaron, Vincent, or Sylvester Green P.
A Ransom P was born in Wake County, NC around 1800/1801, married a Perry girl there in 1824 or so (I'm working from memory right now) and moved with the Wake group (presumed parents Moses and Nancy (Wheeler)P.),and presumed brothers
Aaron, Sylvester Green, Vincent, and Cordy P, to Wythe County Va by 1827.It appears that Ransom MAY have had a son named Green P who was listed in the Poor School children of Wythe Co, or this may have been a clerical error
or factual mistake and Green may have been Sylvester Green, his younger brother (I have to run ages on this). Ransom was appointed to the post of constable of Wythe Co in 1833 and could, therefore, read and write. The P group then moved in its entirety by 1840 to Lee Co, Va, except for Ransom, who never appears there in the tax lists, census records, or other records (exhaustively searched.)Meanwhile, over in Alabama in 1837, a Ransom P (according to the internet, anyway, but unverified by me except by circumstances) marries an Elizabeth Ridgeway 20 years his junior,an apparent second marriage. He has bought a substantial chunk of land next door to the Upchurch family and later Drury Ridgeway also has land next door.In the 1850 Greene County Alabama census, Ransom states that he was born in NC and is literate. He has been married at least 12 years in 1850 to a woman named Elizabeth (b in Ga, 20 years his junior) and they have many children, almost all of whom are female. There is a boy or two and if there is any interest, I'll dig out those names.Ransom lived to an advanced age and was listed in census records as late as (if I recall correctly offhand) 1880, contrary to what you'll see on the internet.
There was another group of Ps in Marshall county Alabama and
I'd be willing (eager) to test male descendants of that line as well.On the internet, I've seen speculation that
this line was that of "Buncombe" John P, but have seen no proof anywhere. The given names are suggestive of some connection to the Warren/Wake Co. group, but that's all.
Obviously, the goal of this project is to sort out the various groups and cut down on confusion as to which John/Jesse/Moses/James is in which line, which will be helpful to ALL of us.
Anyone out there interested? If so, I'll list more info about Ransom's descendants and those of the Marshall County Ala group.
