Thank you very much for your reply.

I had the opportunity to review microfilm images of the book I found through the LDS Library. I also contacted Mr. Pender regarding purchase, but he said no additional copies are available. I placed a query on Amazon and EBay....if there is a copy available I would like to purchase it.

I have found much new information and confirmation of what I knew from my father and grandfather regarding our my family line through this book, and through "The Descendants of Hugh Smithwick", which is available through the Williamston, North Carolina Historical Society. There is one bit of information I would particularly like to learn, and that is the manner of the deaths of Arthur Pender and Eliza Smithwick Pender, of Halifax County, NC,in 1861. Arthur was a son of Drury (Drewry) Pender. This detail is not listed in either book. I am of the understanding that information from this county during the period in question was destroyed by fire in the county courthouse, though I have not personally tried to search county records for this information myself.

If you have any ideas where this information might be found, your guidance would be appreciated. I know their burial location, dates of their death. Their youngest son was my great grandfather, but I have long wondered how they died, as that event, at least indirectly, must have been part of the cause of my great grandfather's migration to Texas, probaby sometime in the 1870's with one of his older brothers and a sister.
