Source: 10 April 2006 Daily Southerner newspaper, Tarboro, NC ALTON RAY PENDER SAVANNAH, Ga. - Alton Ray Pender, 66, died Saturday, April 8, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors in Savannah. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah. Pender was born on a cold winter's day on Nov. 6, 1939, in Tarboro. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired after 36 years with Wilmington Cabinet Co. Pender was an avid fisherman, loved to cook and was, above all, a loving husband and daddy to his girls. He is survived by his wife, Sherill D. Pender of Savannah; two beloved daughters, Sherry Lee Pender and Dawn Elaine Pender, both of Savannah; a sister, Jean Raper of North Carolina; a mother-in-law, Juanita Davis of Savannah; three sisters-in-laws, Susan and Phil Brigdon of Midway, Ga., Judith and Tony Demas of Savannah and Marsha and Jeff Bowman of Johns Island, S.C.; a brother-in-law, Buster and Colleen Davis of Cincinnati, Ohio; his beloved companion, Bocephus and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors in Savannah. Funeral arrangements are by Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Savannah, Ga.
