I believe Thomas was the son of Joseph Pender and Elizabeth Witty from Orange Co. NC. Tracking a Wm. and a Joseph on the 1820 and 1830 (check spelling variants)Lawrence census, they married in Orange NC. Thomas married Sally Cole 1820 Lawrence Co.I do find a number of Wm.s though so more research may be needed.Good luck! Kerry
