Jan, I con find in my extensive Pence records only 1 family that lived in Prairie Twp, Jewell County (per census records) and that was Isaac Newwton Pence, son of Lampson Pence, who died in the Civil War. Lampson's widow and some of Isaac's siblings lived in Buffalo Twp, Jewell County, in 1880 and Isaac lived in Prairie Twp.

The above family had its roots in Pennsylvania, lived in Fairfield County, Ohio, and Linn County, iowa, before moving to Jewell County.

Do you have any more details on L. E. Pence? We are talking about a malae, aren't we?
