I know this is really late, 5 years from the post, but I have been doing family research and I came across this post. I am realted to Pembroke's in Illinois. My great grandmother was Zella Pembroke Thaxton (B. 1898) who lived in Greene County , Ill. She was the daughter of Ansel Pembroke (b. 1860) and Dora E. Featherstone (b. 1868), they were married march 4, 1887 in Greene Co., Il.. Interestingly, Ansel was a twin, his brother was Alsin, but I believe he died at a young age as he appears in the 1860 census but is not there by the 1870. Ansel was the son of David Pembroke (b. ~1808) in Try, NY ( at least from the info I have, and Mary Reynolds (b. 1821. I have that the two were married December 28, 1837 in La Salle Co., Ill.
David and Mary children, according to the 1850,1860, 1870 censi were: Maria (b. 1840), William Henry. (B. 1842), Susan (b. 1844), Charles A. (b. 1846), Alice J.(B. 1849), Laura I.(b.1851), Ursula K.(B.1854), Julia C.(b. 1857), Alsin L.(B. 1860), Ansel T(b. 1860), Ella(b. 1863)
Ansel and Dora's Children according to 1900 census:
GRace M.(B.1882), Zella (b. 1898), Lewis E. (1895),Archie (b. 1907), Garnetta(B. 1912), Wilma (B. 1914)
I even have the old elementary school books of Ansel, where he had his name spelled in it.
I hope this helps
