Richard Pemberton's wife Lydia Pugh, SC to OH 1805
I see that the erroneous information that Lydia Pugh who was the daughter of Thomas Pugh and Ann Wright of Frederick Co, VA is just growing and growing on more and more family trees online at ancestry.com. Thomas Pugh's daughter Jane married a man named Walter Denny who left a will in Frederick Co, VA that was written on 8 May 1810 and probated on 2 Dec 1811. He recounts that his wife received land from her sister Lydia Pugh who had been left land by her father Thomas Pugh. However, since Lydia could not take care of herself, she gave the land to her sister Jane in payment for taking care of her in later years. Therefore, that Lydia Pugh could not be the one who married Richard Pemberton.
So for those of us who were descended from the stronger Lydia Pugh Pemberton who led her family from South Carolina to the Miami Valley of Ohio after the death of her husband Richard in 1805, how could any of those descendants believe that an obviously debilitated Lydia Pugh (d/o Thomas and Ann (Wright) Pugh) was their ancestor?
The facts do not seem to matter. It would be nice if some of those researchers would put their minds to finding out who were the parents of the Lydia Pugh who married Richard Pemberton.
And if that is not enough proof researcher can look at the will of Ann Pugh written on 2 Feb 1797 and probated on 4 May 1801 in Frederick Co, VA wherein she mentions her son in law Walter Denny and her other daughters Elizabeth Jay and Ann Dillon. No mention is made of Lydia who was probably already dead. Reasoning that since the maiden name of the wife of Richard Pemberton was Pugh means that her father was Thomas Pugh is pretty flimsy. There were a lot of Pughs in VA and SC. Pamela
