The query is about James Malachi Pelot (b. Feb. 18, 1833) and the post-Civil War period in which he was west of Missouri in Indian country. Family stories related by his youngest children said he actively gave medical treatment to various Indians, and he returned with handcraft items produced by several tribes, apparently including Eastern Dakota and perhaps Pawnee or similar. Does anyone know where he was, the time period, and if he was there in some official capacity such as federal service? This Dr. Pelot spent the balance of his post-Civil War life in Brownsville (later renamed Sweet Springs), Missouri where he and his family are buried in Fairview Cemetery.
