Pelot Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Janice. Will try and find the photos this week and get copies made for you. The Confederate Iron Cross was a marker plaaced on the graves of Confederate soldiers by the Daughters of the Confederacy. I will get the info from my chapter's VP, as to how to get the cross, cost, etc.
The "deed" is to the Pelot plot in Laurel Grove. It belonged to Harry's maternal grandmother, Ruth Pelot Reynolds. Harry's mother was Gretrude Pelot Reynolds Gregg. Thomas Postell Pelot 's funeral sermon was conducted at the Episcopal Church in Savannah on June 4th, 1864.He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis,2 June 1855, resigned his commission as lt. in the Navy 11 June 1861.He was killed in an attack on the Water Witch, Ossabaw Sound,3 June 1864. We found his name on the list of Fallen Naval Academy midshipmen when we visited the Naval Academy. We had no luck getting any info from the Naval Academy on Pelot. In the reprint from The Charleston Daily Courier, June 6, 1864, it says that he left behind a wife and 3 small childern. He was a native of Charleston, S.C. and was 27 yrs. old. I will send you the address of the Ga. Historical Society in Savannah. Postell's wife was a Freeman. Some of the Pelots moved to Savannah and that is where Harry's mother and grandmother were born, as well as Harry. Will also look in my Savannah folders and see what else you might be of interest to you.
Later, Mary
