Mary: So glad to get your message and information and would love to get the photos of my GrGrandfather's grave. You mentioned a Confederate Iron Cross which I had not heard of. Is it possible to have it replaced? And how would I get this book that you mentioned? I am so new at this it is just amazing at how much I have been able to find-as the Beatles would say 'with a little help from my friends!' You also mention a "deed". What is that about? If you have the address of the Georgia Historical Society, maybe I could send for the book on the Water Witch.
Now I'm curious about your husband, Harry's, relationship.because your name isn't Pelot. I was going thru files the other day and found a letter that my Grammy - Lt. Pelot's last daughter, Lalla - had sent to me. I was pregnant with our 6th child and told her that I would name him Robert, after her Uncle who she lived with in Norfolk, VA and his second name would be Pelot. She mentioned some Pelot cousins who lived just outside of Norfolk. But, being young and busy, never asked who they were or what her Uncle's last name was. She always talked of him as Uncle Robert - he was a sailing Captain, I think. Maybe it was Freeman, her Mother's maiden name. Can't find anything on her except that she is buried in Charleston, SC. How I go on! You really do get caught up with this and it has been a very interesting journey for me. I am also happy that I found this site - I have gotten SO much information here. So thank you again for your message. You must have visited the grave. I looked for it the only time I visited Savannah but had no idea how to find it. Anxiously waiting to hear from you. Janice
