The Heads of Families at the First Census of the United States taken in the year 1790 (for) South Carolina 9printed by the US Government), records a Samuel Peloton pg 12; a Charles and a James Pelot on pg 11. These 3 Pelot men are recorded in Beaufort Co., SC. After speaking with a Pelot gentleman recently, who says the name is Swiss and that they were French Huguenots, one suppposes they were from the SC Hughenot settlement of Purrysburg (on the Savannah River, in what is now Jasper County, SC.

Suggest you check 'Huguenots' online. Look for Purrysburg. That record is astounding and may give you some insight.
