I only recently started researching my family history and it appears that I am descended from the Pell Family. My 16th Great Grandfather was John Pell of Dersingham Norfolk (1500-1555 married to Margaret Cletheroe. 15th Great Grandfather John Pell (1527-1607) married to Margaret Overend.
Beyond John Pell (1500-1555), only scant references. I even emailed the local parish council of Dersingham for information alas no reply.
From various pages on the internet, I am in an opinion that there seems to be 2 schools of thought. Firstly that the Pell family originated from a foot soldier in the service of William the Conqueror called de Pelle, descendants eventually settled at Water Willoughby Lincolnshire or secondly a Saxon barony seat of Pelham eg a Lord Walter de Pelham who had a Lordship at Pelham, Hertfordshire, again after several generations the family settled at Water Willoughby.
As an Englishman living in Spain, I am most impressed with the work carried out by my distant American cousins in finding out and posting emails/ web pages on this subject and most surprised to find out the achievements made by the Pell family in America with the likes of Thomas Pell etc.
If anyone could help me settle this query or correct me in anyway, I would be most grateful.
