Peirson family connections

This spelling variant of the surname seems to have become the accepted form in my family, although it was often changed to other spellings in baptismal and marriage records.

My branch of the Peirsons hailed from North Yorkshire, where they were mostly farmers or agricultural workers and miners (ironstone). Have found the name in small towns and villages on the N York moors, for example, Egton/Egton Bridge, Danby, Castleton, also in the coastal villages.

My grandfather was Marshall Peirson, born at Egton Bridge Dec 13,1889. My father William, the eldest son, was born at Skinningrove on June 22, 1915.

Marshall's father was a John Peirson, birthplace not known, though he was apparently one of many children born to Richard and Hannah (Dennison)Peirson of Egton. John's wife was a Sarah Ramsey, possibly born at Stokesley, who has been described as "about 4ft 11ins, with red hair and a temper to match".

Marshall's known siblings were: Robert, Hannah, Harry, and Florence, but there seems to have been another sister, Dorothy, who later married a man named Bennett. Dorothy lived at Brotton for many years, and I often was taken on visits to her there in the late 40's/early 50s.

I have made contact with a descendant of Hannah (Kettlewell), but would love to connect with any other descendants of John and Sarah.

Other names connected with this branch and generation of the Peirsons: Kettlewell, Hambley, Atkinson.
