Jean According to research done by the Mormon Church and an individual in the US I too am descended from Richard and Hannah Pegler. But some of their other data is questionable to say the least and I won't be convinced until I've looked at all the records myself. Assuming that I am descended from the same line, their Great Grandson William Pegler was a Baker and Innkeeper in Nympsfield, Gloucestershire. This village appears to be the spring for many of the Pegler lines around the world today. He moved his family to Newnham-on-Severn where he later got into trouble for using defective weights. His son Samuel was a Baker and Grocer who moved his own family to South Wales. Samuel's son William (my GGgrandfather) established the successful Peglers' Stores chain which was one of the forerunners for the modern-day supermarket chains. They took advantage of the heavily populated industrial South Wales at that time. This business went on well into the 20th Century but has now disappeared. My records are accurate as far back as the William who moved to Newnham. Beyond that, they are doubtful. Going back the other way - according to the unreliable records I have - Richard Pegler's Great Grandfather was Thomas Pegler of Nympsfield, born in 1580. He married Alice Merrett in Kings Stanley in 1620. As I say, unless you have seen original records for yourself, don't take the information on the internet at face value.
