Capt. Oscar Fitzallen Peek (1829-1914) Obit
July, 1914:
"An Old Land Mark Gone.
Capt. O.F. Peek, father of
Mrs. H. V. Morrow and Mr.
L.L. Peek of Madison, died
at his home at Lee Wednesday
evening at about 7
o'clock.He was in the 85th
year of his age and had been
confined to his bed for several
months (from senility,
more than otherwise), during
all of which he retained
his strong mentality, taking
a keen interest in passing
events and at all times
evidencing a keen delight in
having friends and acquaintances
call upon him.
He came to Madison during
the 50's and has resided
in the county ever since.
Served the Confederacy as a
Brave and loyal soldier, and
Since then besides attending
His farm, served the State as
a teacher of its youth, for
which avocation he was peculiarly
adapted.
He was strong in physique,
frank with his friends, virile
in his position on matters of
interest, open and honest upon
all occasions, yet withal
possessed of a disposition in
which his ambition sought to
do the every day affairs of
life to his satisfaction rather
than aspiring to public places
or duties.
The life of such a person
cannot fail to leave its impress.
He had the satisfaction
of living to see the effect
of his life work in the development
of some of the most successful
citizens of this and
other counties of the state.
His remains were brought
here for internment in Oakridge
cemetery which occurred
yesterday afternoon, being
followed thereto by a
large cortege of friends and
acquaintances to participate
in the sad rites which were
conducted by Rev. S.B. Cole.
Requiscat in pace."
