What I have to tell you may or may not help you. Your ancestor may have roots in Person County, NC.
George W. Peed married Elvira Bumphass October 22, 1859 in Person County. George was brother to my great, great grandfather who along with another brother served in the Civil War. George did not return from the war, Elvira heard that he was in Geogia. She mortaged 160 acres of land for $230. The land had been deeded to her by her mother in 1870 (Deed Book T page 544). The land was mortaged to Samuel Evans and was to be repaid by october 1872. (DB T page 557). Elvira sold the same 160 acres to Simeon Bumpass in 1880 (DB X page 476).
On March 23, 1885 Christopher C. Peed of Cobb County sent Power of Attorney to Simeon Bumpass, Attorney, in Person County, NC to collect any debts. This was registered in Person County on April 20, 1885.
I believe that Christopher was a son of George and Elvira. George died in a Richmond hospital of typhiod fever on October 5, 1862. He had joined NC 15th Inf. Co. E in Wake County on July 15, 1862 at the age of 28.
There was a John Peed in Person County that married Sally Robards on January 1, 1815. He was never listed as head of a household in Person County. I have wondered if he moved to Georgia. There was a John Peed listed in Lincoln County, GA in 1818. Having relatives may have been why Elvira moved her family to Georgia.
Several years ago,I had communication with a descendant of Christopher Peed who lived in Atlanta but I have lost the address.
I would be interested to know if this information is helpful to you.
