Dear Hannah,

We are of different lines (my Peads being English), but, in my researches years ago, I discovered that a line of Peeds (now Pead) emigrated from (I am sure) Cork to the Australian colony of New South Wales in the 1840's settling near Maitland. I noted the details from NSW archives listing the names of sponsored immigrants to NSW under the 'Bounty Scheme'. I seem to recall that the emigrant Peeds name was JOHN.

I was intrigued that they were from Ireland, as the name does not appear to be Irish at all (perhaps English settlers from mediaeval times). In any case, your Hannah, may be a niece of these 'Peed' emigrants to Australia. The (now spelt) Pead family descendants of this line still live in the Newcastle area (about 25 miles east of Maitland) which is about 90 miles north of Sydney, Australia.

Hope this helps.

regards

Tony Pead
