Dr. Peoples:
My mother is Thelma Louise Peebles Graves and is still, presently, living in Alabama.
She has a sister, Daurice, and had a brother, Rembert, who died of rheumatic fever at the age of five in Gulfport, MS. He is buried there.
My grandfather was David Wilson Peebles. He married Helen Biggers and eventually moved to Tuscaloosa (1100-14th street)and opened the Pure Process Ice Cream and Cold Storage Plant. He had a brother, Granville (G.C.) Peebles who, I believe, died in either Gulfport or Biloxi.
Their father was Tom Peebles, who married Sandra Level. He was from the Jackson/Vicksburg, MS area and fought in the Civil War. The Levels, I understand, were a prominent family in that area.
My grandfather was killed at the plant when he was 53 (1943, I think) and my grandmother lived in the same house until her death in 1981. Both are buried in Tuscaloosa.
I can try to get more information from my mother if you would like (She is 85). I know there is more material, it will just take a little time to gather and organize.
Thank you for your interest.
DPG
