Donald,
Thank you for your reply re James Peebles and Margaret Scott. Their dod's were taken from the Fife Deaths pre 1855 cd. It is a pretty difficult format to follow. Will have to re-check it when I next visit the library. Their sources were taken from parish records, church yards and newspapers.
Only four of their children appear on the OPR'S. They were Agnes b1795,George b 1797, Thomas b 1810 and James b 1793. The others were David b 1798 d 15 Jun 1810, Margaret b 1803 d 19 Mar 1823, Alexander b 1805 m 1826 Margaret Davidson, David b 1809 m 1848 Margaret Smith d 1882 at Carnbee and Robert b 1806 m Ann Dewar and Ann Ramsay d 1871 at Wemyss.
I originally had James as b 1762 of Thomas Peebles and Helen Webster but his age at death means that he was b c 1749 which means that he could be the son of James Peebles and Margaret Bruce.
If they followed the traditional Scottish naming pattern, Margaret Scott may be the daughter of George Scott and Agnes Dowie b 1760 at Newburgh.
Carnbee Churchyard, entry no 28 for James Peebles and Janet Hackston both 1871.
Janet's name has been spelt as Halkerston on the earlier births of her children Haven't done any research on the Haxtons as they are not directly related to me. Haven't figured out whether John Peebles and Catherine Kidd fit.
Undoubtly, I have made mistakes but sometimes it's impossible to check everything.
The better way to check Scottish records is through the OPR cd available at most of the LDS libraries. The IGI is limited and not always accurate.
Have checked all of the 1841, and 1851 census for Carnbee and chased my Robert Peebles around Fife for the other census. The 1881 census is on line but it doesn't include Scotland.
Any questions, feel free to ask.
