James

This is excellent news.

You mention that one of the Pedleys was a Minister in Pertenhall, We havn't heard of this yet, but there is a religous connection with Fred's brother Alf. He and his wife Annie lived in a cottage at Chapel Yard in Pertenhall, next to the Moravian Chapel, and as far as we can ascertain they must have worshipped there. They had no children. After Alf died in 1965 Annie went to live with Sarah's grandparents, but she died about 6 months afterwards. They are both buried in the Moravian Chapel graveyard, even though the Chapel had already cloed. Sarah went back earlier this year to see if she could find the graves, but could only find Annie's headstone.

Kimbolton is no more than about 1 mile from Pertenhall, Ernest Pedley's name is inscribed on the war memorial in Kimbolton High St, so it is not surprising that Fred Pedley was born in Kimbolton. I don't know what year he was born, he was not on the 1891 Census, and as yet I haven't managed to view the 1901 Census.

We have so far managed to trace the Pedley line in Pertenhall back to 1764, mainly through the internet and the census, and of course we are more than happy to share this information with you. We have a few photographs of the Pedleys and press cuttings which we can copy.

I am a regular visitor to the Public Records Office in London, where First World War Soldier's service records are held. I am probably going there next week and I will see if Frederick Pedley's records have survived. Unfortunately about 60% of the records were destroyed in an air raid during WWII so it is a bit hit and miss - Alf Pedley's records have survived, but not Ernest's. If I find anything I will let you know.

Best wishes

Paul and Sarah McAllister.
