While researching Washington Co., GA yesterday for my husband's ancestor James Holley Peddy, I found the following concerning Jeremiah Peddy:
INDEX TO HEADRIGHTS AND BOUNTY GRANTS, 1756-1909, by Silas E. Lucas, Jr, 1970, p. 512: Jeremiah Peddy - Wash. (Co.), Grant Book YYYY,p. 489, 550 acres, 1796; Nehemiah Peddy - Wash. (C0.), Grant Book BBBBB, p. 36, 50 acres, 1799.
PEDDY GENEALOGY by Cuttino & Wester (no date or first names), p. 1:
"Jeremiah Peddy and his two brothers - - one was Andrew, who married 9 January 1781 to Julia Barker in Wake County, North Carolina (Marriage Records, p. 391) - - were of Scotch-Irish descent and came to Georgia from Ireland by way of Princess Ann County, Virginia and Chatham, Caswell, and Wake Counties, North Carolina, immediately prior to the Revoluntionary War. Jeremiah served with Georgia troops (Georgia's Roster of the Revolution, p. 364). He had a grant of 550 acres in Washington County, Georgia in 1796 and from there moved to Monroe County, Georgia where he was living when he drew land in a lottery as a Revolutionary Soldier. He was born 1760, died 1828, buried in Monroe County, married 3 February 1783 to Lavina (Luvinah) Skinner, in Wake County, North Carolina."
If any Peddy researcher knows anything about a Britton Peddy, father of James Peddy who was born in Georgia (maybe Washington County), I would very much appreciate hearing from you. James Holley Peddy married Melvina Tooke about 1855 in Washington County, GA. I have found records which strongly indicate that James Peddy's father was Britton Peddy and his mother was Nancy Gray. Would like some documentation.
