Joanne Albers Peay Obit
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Joanne Albers Peay, 90, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Statesville, N.C., and Adrian, Mich., died March 19, 2008.
She was born on Jan. 27, 1918, in Maria Stein, Ohio, to Henry Albers and Mary Roetgerman Albers. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Andrew Peay, and her brothers and sisters, Alfred Albers, Edward Albers, Ida Scheaf, Marcella Burris, John Albers, Herbert Albers and Bertha Wright.
She is survived by her children, Diana Francoeur of Carmel, Ind., Carol Van Pelt of Geneva, Ill., Steve Peay of Shasta Lake, Calif., Susan Neagle of Westerville, Ohio, Pamela Brown of Chillicothe, Ohio, Christopher Peay of Warrensburg, Mo., and Jennifer Rosseter of Mason, Mich. She was a loving grandmother to Alan, Andrew and Stacy Van Pelt; Hunter Francoeur, James and Johanna Neagle; and Maggie and Dane Rosseter.
Joanne Peay served as a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps for 54 months during World War II. Her international service included tours in Scotland and France. After her discharge from the army, she employed her nursing abilities at Goodwill Industries and served as a volunteer for the Red Cross.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, Ohio. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. John the Baptist Church, Maria Stein, Ohio.
