Hi, Claudia,
I've just learned that my America / Americus (Maggie) Cowart (1867-1944) m. Lindsey C. Pearre and is buried in Hebron Cemetery in Garfield, GA. I'm also investigating the following and whether this gene comes from our Hendrix ancestry (it was reported in a William Alexander Hendrix whom I have not pinned down). I'm wondering if you know if any of our Maggie Cowart - Lindsey Pearre descendants had this gene. If Maggie did not have the dominant gene, her descendants would not be affected. Thanks.

Since, as you will see, my ggm died young, when my gm was very young, my gm did not know her Cowart / Hendrix relatives, but one of her brothers may have had the paralysis. Do you know if any of America / Americus's
descendants developed paralysis of the lower body?
"We need info on inherited paraplegia. If you know of similarar illnesses, please help. My mother and brother were afflicted. All my grandparents descendants have a 50-50 chance of a creeping heriditary paraplegia if their parents were afflicted, and any info on such illnesses would help in study and treatment--and hopefully help all future children of those afflicted. Apparently, if the parent has a dominant gene half the children come down by the time they are 40 and it hits a few in early childhood. It becomes more pervasive below the waist as the person ages.
