G'day Steve,

Just came into work to get a few things for the weekend, so must be brief.

I've just checked the forum for your other messages and glad to see that you have also sent out a hoy to Andrew Pead, as he is from North London and he had an uncle who was a pro-boxer - seem to recall his name as Edgar - so cld be a connection.

One of my Aussie Pead great uncles tried the change of name trick when he enlisted for WWI as 'Read' - much to Nana Pead's disgust (reckon she thought if she was stuck with the name by marriage, so shld he be!). But the real hoot was that, when he returned from the war and married a lady of some pretensions and proud of her scottish ancestry, she insisted that he change the family name to McPEADE - so owzat!?! Quite frankly, I would've thought it no improvement at all!

Us Pead's have to be a thick-skinned lot and, YES, I was the butt of many a tedious Pead joke at school for a time. I only ask that the jokes be fresh and original!

I see that you live in Florida - so I trust you punched your ballot paper correctly last November, Steve!

Hope you can find some leads; my Pead's were from Buckingham via Somers Town, London and emigrated to Australia around 1855 (see previous postings for details). Andy Pead sent me an off-line greeting the other day, so I'll give him a reminder for you.

Tony Pead
