Brooklyn Daily Star July 23, 1898. She was Ninety-eight Years Old. Mr. William L. RUSSELL directed the funeral of Mrs. Maria C. VAN PELT, the old resident of Newtown who died last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gertrude MUNDY in the ninety-eighth year of her age.Mrs. VAN PELT was born in Ravenswood, which was thenknown as Waterside.Her maiden name was PAYNTER.Her father, William PAYNTER, owned four large farms in the heart
of Long Island City, and at the time of his death was considered one of the wealthiestfarmers on Long Island.When twenty-seven years of age the deceased married Peter David VAN PELT, who was of old Knickerbocker stock.
