Thank you for your note. Glad to know that B.C. Payette was your uncle. He did some excellent historical work and I have two of his books.
Sine you say your cousin has genealogical nformation on the Payette family, see if the François Payette who went to Oregon is in there.
Again, he was the son of Jean Baptiste Payette and Judieth Beaupied. He was baptized 27 September 1793 at St. Roch de L'Assomption, a few miles below Montreal.
François Payette retired from the Hudson's Bay Company in 1844 and returned to Montreal. He withdrew substantial funds from his company account, and there apparently is no firm record of him after that.

P.S. I am writing a book on the hunter John Day (1770-1820) who was with a contemporary of François Payette's in the Oregon Country.
