The Paxton/Paxson family and Bycot House
Just for the record, before we start, I'm an English Paxton.
I'm sure some of you know of the honourable Edward M. Paxson, he was chief justice of the high court of Pennsylvania, and descended from the Pennsylvania Paxtons. He named his home 'Bycot House', supposedly after the family home in England. I know that some of his relations were born in Stowe (then in Oxfordshire), so I assume this must actually be Boycott Manor, or perhaps Boycott House is a part of the manor, I can't be sure. I'd be interested if anyone has anymore information on this, as I know that my 13th great grandfather, Edmund Paxton, owned Barton Hartshorne Manor in Buckinghamshire, which is currently on the market for 2.5 million pounds, so the family must have been quite wealthy back then.
Anyone care to speculate on all this, or have any information that I don't? It seems the farthest back anyone has got down this branch is John Paxton, died abt. 1558. I found one biography of Edward M. Paxson saying that Bycot House (the english one) had been in the family home since the time of William The Conquerer.
Anyway, the main point of this topic was to post a document I found which may be of interest to Paxtons/Paxsons, English and American alike. It's from an online collection/e-book I found called 'A collection of papers read before the Bucks County historical society'. An account by Judge Edward M. Paxson of him going back to england to visit the family home, which curiously tugged at my heart strings somewhat. He even mentions the Finmere Paxtons, who I'm also related to. I even found a picture of him only to find that he's the spitting image of my granddad.
Anyway, it's a PDF file, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view. It's here - http://www.libraries.psu.edu/do/digitalbookshelf/28988620/28988620_part_066.pdf#page=29http://www.libraries.psu.edu/do/digitalbookshelf/28988620/28988620_part_066.pdf#page=29
You can see an index for the whole publication here - http://www.libraries.psu.edu/do/digitalbookshelf/28988620/http://www.libraries.psu.edu/do/digitalbookshelf/28988620/
Hopefully this'll be as interesting to others as it was to me. I've probably forgotten to mention something important. I'd love to hear anything anyone else has to mention.
