My husband's grandmother was a Pawley from Dana, IN. Her name was Martha Annis Pawley. Her Father's name was Frank and her grandfather was Stephen H. Pawley, I believe. There is a Stephen H. Pawley listed in the 1880 Shelby Co. IL censis as well. This would be about the right date for him but I have found nothing putting him in IL. S.H. Pawley had a lumber company with stores in Dana, Terre Haute, Brazil, and Center Point-all in IN. It doesn't seem like the years would be right to be on the same line but maybe. Also the closest I could find beyond Stephen H. Pawley was a George Stephen Pawley from KY. I have nothing saying this is Stephen's dad but that is the best route for me to check out. I hope this somehow helps put a piece together to your puzzle!
